Millennials – those born between 1980 and the early 2000s – are on average making less money than Baby Boomers, and their net wealth is about half of Boomers when they were at the same age. However, Millennials are saving more for retirement. INSIGHTS examines this phenomenon.

The demand in Hawaii for residential rooftop solar permits has declined between 50-70% when you compare any given week in 2012 vs. 2016. The reasons have been widely reported and debated.
White collar. Blue collar. Police. Firefighters. Nurses. Teachers. Scientists. These are just a few of the professions that make up Hawai‘i’s 14 collective bargaining units, representing thousands of State and County workers. Union representatives are currently negotiating new contracts with the State government.
INSIGHTS explores the tenuous relationship Hawai‘i has had with President Trump, from the “birther” controversy, to Hillary Clinton’s huge local win, and most recently, the State’s lawsuit blocking the President’s travel ban. Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa is among the guests scheduled for this discussion.
Since statehood, Hawai‘i Republicans have won major races, though the victories have been few and far between. In 58 years, there have been two governors, one U.S. Senator and two U.S. Representatives. Democrats have clearly dominated, but Republicans kept it competitive, at least in certain elections for specific races – until now.

The 2016 Presidential Election will be remembered for many things. The ongoing rancor that drove the energy of this election may be a force that’s here to stay. What about us? Has the meanness movement reach our shores? Locally, issues like rail, homelessness and GMOs have created disagreement and division among Hawai‘i people.
Although difficult to imagine, the 2016 Election will be over after Tuesday, Nov. 8. The U.S. Congress, our State Legislature and the County Councils will soon be back in session working on the issues debated and promises made during recent campaigns. All three levels government will be represented on this edition of INSIGHTS.
