Other Candidates in the race for Hawaiʻi County Mayor.

There are three other candidates in the race. They are:

  • Daniel H. Cunningham
  • Kavin H. Kahikina
  • Yumi T.R. Kawano

We invited all there candidates to submit a written document outlining their positions on the issues.  Yumi Kawano is the only candidate who responded.

VISION: 

We must ALL “Be the Change to Make the Change” like never before. TOGETHER we absolutely can.  If we consistently care for our aina (land )and kai (ocean), then we will be cared for in every way as smart stewards. Hawaii Island is becoming a major part of the world ECONOMIC goal of reforesting our entire Earth by 2050, One Trillion Trees (1t.org). In Oct. 2022 during the Covid epidemic pause, Hawaii pledged restoring 100 million Native trees across the island by 2050, especially the dry west side which will prevent raging wildfires and keep communities safe.  As your Hawaii County Mayor our Hawaii Island will be restored in every way.    yamahilo.wixsite.com/mayorkawano

  • Aid each community to be emergency disaster prepared by being self-sustaining in agriculture and in home building; after all we on an active volcanic island.
  • Establish REGULAR communication between all Citizens and Community Development Planning Action Committees, county departments, and with ALL citizens to make needed improvements like townhall meetings, emails, and text messaging .
  • Reward our good citizens by giving incentives to them for going green, conserving  precious resources at the dump by recycling and reusing rubbish; Giveaway Centers at dump sites will lessen garbage.
  • CREDENTIALS:
  • Hawaii Public School Educator Island-wide for 13 years, multiple subject endorsed with a Masters in Teaching MAT specializing in Indigenous curriculum. Also taught Yupik In the Alaska bush and in Oregon.
  • Served 10 years US Forest Service Wildlife Biologist & Wildfire Fighter and Dispatcher in Colorado, Utah, and Oregon.  Supervised prison crews for wildlife restoration, US Forest Service.  Bachelor of Science BS in Environmental Biology
  • Established a nonprofit to restore rare rainforests, Alaula Kipuka Refuge, yamahilo.wixsite.com/akrefuge
  • Strong Strong Military Veteran & Family Advocate
