INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI
Two established businessmen who’ve never held elective office – and for that matter, who’ve never run for public office before – are facing off in the General Election’s Honolulu Mayoral Race. INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 will feature a conversation with the candidates who advanced from a field of 15 in the Primary. In alphabetical order, the two are:
–Keith Amemiya is an attorney who served as Senior Vice President of Island Holdings, the parent company of Island Insurance and other firms, for eight years. Prior to that, he served on the Honolulu Police Commission, the Hawaii State Board of Education and the Aloha Stadium Authority. For 12 years, he was Executive Director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
–Rick Blangiardi is a former media executive in Hawaiʻi and on the Continent. The former President of the Spanish-language network Telemundo, he most recently served as General Manager of Hawaiʻi’s largest multimedia company, Hawaii News Now. Blangiardi was in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was Associate Head Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
