CEO MESSAGE Do you consider yourself the average American? Here is why I ask. According to a recent survey, Americans spend three hours and nine minutes each day streaming digital media, which adds up to more than 22 hours per week, pretty much a part-time job.

CEO MESSAGE In 1983, Kamehameha Schools’ Performing Arts teacher Holoua Stender recognized gems in a crowd of talented students. They were three young women – Nalani Jenkins, Lehua Kalima and Angela Morales – all blessed with beautiful voices individually, but together, with a sound that was magical.

CEO MESSAGE Denialism is the practice of denying the existence, truth or validity of something, despite proof of strong evidence that is real, true or valid.  That could apply to nearly 15% of Americans, who according to a recent University of Michigan study, do not believe climate change is real.

CEO MESSAGE Nā Mele 25, PBS Hawai‘i’s yearlong celebration showcasing the rich history and diversity of Hawaiian music, is receiving approval, appreciation and commendation from across the globe, and the best thing about this pa‘ina: it’s just getting started.

On the evening of April 15, 1999, PBS Hawai‘i, then known as Hawai‘i Public Television, launched a new musical program highlighting the history, beauty and magic of traditional Hawaiian music.  The historic premiere featured four iconic names in Hawaiian music, Dennis and David Kamakahi, Martin Pahinui and George Kuo.

CEO MESSAGE Join us this month for Nā Mele featuring multi-Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Natalie Ai Kamauu at Palikū Theatre on the Windward Community College campus in Kāne‘ohe, O‘ahu. Ai Kamauu recently won Female Vocalist of the Year for the sixth time and Album of the Year for Natalie Noelani.

CEO MESSAGE Many of us are guilty of carelessly being insensitive to a friend in need. I can think of a few heartless comments that I recently blurted out, only to feel like a moron the moment the words left my mouth.

Final Thought… It is with grateful hearts, that we extend our aloha… From Hilo to Hanalei…Pauoa to Pāhoa.   For believing in our team and supporting our mission… For embracing our programs and trusting our vision.   We promise to serve with dignity and grace… Staying true to our purpose and respectful of space.
