If Gov. David Ige signs a recently passed bill into law, the State will install cameras at multiple intersections on Oʻahu and fine registered owners of vehicles caught on camera running red lights. There is much urgency to address sobering numbers. From 2015 to 2019, police in all four counties issued nearly 21,000 traffic tickets to motorists for red light violations. There were also more than 1,300 crashes at intersections involving motorists who either ran red lights or committed other infractions, some resulting in death. Is this the answer?
