A gentle mist unexpectedly arrives at Halekulani in Waikīkī, sprinkling a light blessing on those in attendance at House Without A Key. No one even notices, as the golden, euphonious voice of Josh Tatofi mesmerizes guests with his brilliant rendition of Moon Kauakahi’s “Kaleohano.”
This magical moment was one of many captured by PBS Hawai‘i’s production team for an upcoming Nā Mele featuring the award-winning Tatofi and his band at the beautiful Halekulani.
We humbly ask you to join us on Monday, June 13 at 7:30 pm, as we broadcast a live pledge program from our Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Studio. The 90-minute musical event will serve as the final push of our fiscal year fundraising efforts.
We are grateful beyond words for our long relationship and valued friendships with Halekulani and its professional and hospitable staff. A warm mahalo nui to Patricia Tam, Ulrich Krauer, Geoff Pearson, Oswaldo Rabago and Bonnie Bise, for once again, opening their doors to PBS Hawai‘i.
It was 11 years ago when PBS Hawai‘i hosted its last live pledge program recorded at House Without A Key. Emma Veary at Halekulani featured Hawai‘i’s pre-eminent female vocalist, appropriately dubbed Hawai‘i’s Golden Throat, where she first performed nearly 50 years ago.
This time we asked the talented Josh Tatofi to join us at Halekulani and the combination was everything we hoped for … and so much more. Tatofi’s soothing sounds paired with the picturesque and world famous House Without A Key serving as the setting made for a memorable and enchanting evening.
We look forward to taking you there on June 13 during our live pledge program and sharing the music, laughter and storytelling of Tatofi, and under the guidance of Kumu Hula Keolalaulani Dalire, the beautiful hula hands of Keolalaulani Hālau ‘Ōlapa O Laka.
Only PBS Hawai‘i can bring you programs like this, and we can only do so with your support. You make it possible for PBS Hawai‘i to present enriching content on multiple platforms, including national programs like PBS NewsHour, FRONTLINE, American Experience, Nature, NOVA, Antiques Roadshow and Masterpiece …
… and local shows like Nā Mele, HIKI NŌ, Insights on PBS Hawai‘i, PBS Hawai‘i Presents, Home is Here and our audio podcast, What School You Went?
We hope to see you on June 13 for what promises to be a special evening of song, dance and new memories.
With respect and aloha,
Ron Mizutani and the PBS Hawai‘i family
