PBS Hawaiʻi hosts free preview of upcoming Ken Burns cancer film

HONOLULU, HI – PBS Hawaiʻi will host a free preview of the latest Ken Burns-produced documentary, Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies. The screening will take place this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at ProtoHUB Honolulu (458 Keawe Street in Kakaako).

The event will feature an hour-long excerpt from the six-hour documentary, followed by an audience discussion, moderated by an American Cancer Society representative.

Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies airs March 30 – April 1 at 9:00 p.m. on PBS Hawaiʻi. The film is produced by Ken Burns, directed by Barak Goodman, and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D.

The three-part documentary tells the comprehensive story of cancer, from its first description in an ancient Egyptian scroll, to the gleaming laboratories of modern research institutions. Intimate stories from patients, and the latest scientific breakthroughs, are interwoven throughout the historical narrative.

Free street parking is available after 6:00 p.m. Attendees can print this parking pass to park at the lot on 555 South Street. PBS Hawaiʻi will have a volunteer there to hand out passes, as well.
