Most Likely to Succeed

Most Likely to Succeed examines how the current American educational system was established in 1893 – a system that’s remained a standard in schools, while the economy has made dramatic shifts due to technology. The film highlights High Tech High School, a San Diego charter school that uses hands-on, project-based curricula, and serves as a model for what’s possible, as communities across the country attempt to re-imagine education for now and the future.

WORLD DANCESPORT GRANDSLAM SERIES
Part 2 Latin Series – The Showdown in Shanghai

The world’s best dancers compete for prestigious titles and prize money. This series covers both the Latin and Standard competitions of the last two regular legs of the series, held in Stuttgart, Germany, and Moscow, Russia respectively, plus the GrandSlam Finals in Shanghai. Dance legend Peter Maxwell hosts the series.

The GrandSlam competition uses a revolutionary judging system where the judges no longer compare one couple with the others on the dance floor. Rather, they focus on each couple individually and award points on an absolute scale for the quality of dancing. Combining athleticism and artistry, the 12 best dance couples perform Latin and Standard styles of dance, from the samba, cha cha cha, rumba and paso doble to the waltz, tango, slow foxtrot and quickstep.

This three-part series, hosted by former U.S dance champions Mary Murphy and Tony Meredith, features all four major styles of competitive ballroom dancing: American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard and International Latin. In addition to 25 world-class couples competing to be named “America’s Best,” the series includes backstage footage of the couples preparing for competition; exhibitions featuring other top couples in each style of dance, from children to Pro-Am champions; and behind-the-scenes looks at different aspects of the world of ballroom dancing, from music to hairstyles.

Part 1 of 3
In the first hour, the six finalists in the American Smooth and American Rhythm divisions compete as a group, performing the standard dances in their respective categories, with judges scoring their performances. Then each couple performs a “Showdance” solo.
