Film and theater luminaries such as James Earl Jones, Viola Davis, Phylicia Rashad, Laurence Fishburne, Charles Dutton and others share their stories of the career and experience of bringing Wilson’s rich theatrical voice to the stage. This film tells of his journey to the Great White Way, the triumphs and struggles along the path to such seminal works as Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Fences, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Piano Lesson and others before his death in 2005.

From the late 1940s through the early 1970s, The Ed Sullivan Show, based in the heart of New York’s theatre district, presented live special performances by cast members from the most beloved stage musicals of Broadway’s golden age. Not seen for decades since their original broadcasts, these rare selections include performances by legends Julie Andrews, Ethel Merman, Joel Grey, Gwen Verdon, Dick Van Dyke, Richard Burton and others in songs from classics such as Oklahoma!, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Annie Get Your Gun, Sweet Charity and Camelot. The special is hosted by Shirley Jones.

Drawn from the best-known pieces from the classical canon, along with uplifting sacred music, Broadway tunes and pop songs, Jackie’s astoundingly beautiful young voice soars in the magnificent setting of Longwood Gardens Open Air Theatre, nestled among more than 1,000 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows in Brandywine Creek Valley in Pennsylvania, the singer’s home state. Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson joins Jackie on a number of duets, including “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera. Other songs include: “The Rains of Castamere” (theme from Game of Thrones), “Nessun Dorma,” and “With or Without You.”
