"Viewers know we respect their intelligence and that when lawmakers and candidates approach the podium, we're going to step out of the way and let them see and hear the speeches for themselves," said PBS NewsHour executive producer Linda Winslow. "Between speeches, viewers count on our seasoned team of journalists to hone in on the issues and get explanations in interviews with party leaders, delegates and the candidates or their representatives."

Here at home, Insights on PBS Hawaii is the only live, televised forum of its kind. Every week, the show brings people with diverse viewpoints together to shed light on community issues. With exposure to multiple perspectives, viewers are empowered to create informed opinions about the issues that affect them.

During election season, Insights invites candidates from many of Hawaii's races, big and small, to the roundtable. In traditional televised debates, there are usually agreed-upon rules that restrict a free-flowing, informative discussion that benefits citizens and voters. On Insights, there's only one rule: engaging in real, civil discourse.
