Aloha mai kakou from Leslie Wilcox, President and CEO... We’re sending you next week’s program highlights a few days early, before Thanksgiving festivities. Here’s wishing you a lovely holiday! On the next LONG STORY SHORT (Tues., Dec. 1, 7:30 pm), Oahu playwright and author Victoria Kneubuhl talks about the rich stories in her Hawaiian and Samoan heritage and her passion for giving voice to powerful women of Hawaii’s past. She explains how she goes about structuring a play and mentions that she feels exposed when actors take on her script at rehearsal: “Something that was inside your head is now out there. I always feel like, oh my God, my underwear is hanging on the line and everybody’s looking at it.” The final season of Downton Abbey is just around the corner! Celebrate with host Hugh Bonneville for A Salute to Downton Abbey (Sun., Nov. 29, 8:00 pm). See interviews with show creator Julian Fellowes, Executive Producer Gareth Neame and the cast, and catch a sneak peek of this upcoming Season 6. Join actor/conductor David Ogden Stiers for Classical Rewind 2 (Wed., Dec. 2, 8:00 pm). It’s a visual and aural feast of works by Mozart, Prokofiev, Copland, Dvorak, Bizet and many other composers. Host Jack Jones presents a nostalgic hit parade of some of the best-loved songs from the 1950s and 1960s. Songbook Standards: As Time Goes By (Thurs., Dec. 3, 8:00 pm) is an all-star special featuring rare footage of Peggy Lee (pictured), Judy Garland, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Patti Page and more. Chefs Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless and Ming Tsai prepare an honorary feast for Jacques Pépin’s 80th Birthday Celebration (Sat., Dec. 5, 4:30 pm). The chefs share memories, anecdotes and laughs as they cook up their favorite dishes. Singer Josh Groban returns to one of his earliest music loves – Broadway musicals – with Stages Live (Sat., Dec. 5, 8:00 pm). Pop star Kelly Clarkson joins him for a rendition of “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom of the Opera. Other selections include “Bring Him Home,” “Old Devil Moon,” “Pure Imagination” and “Try to Remember.” For more program listings by genre, click here.
