Happy Aloha Friday! And here’s wishing you a great Independence Day weekend! Just ahead, we have a splendid week of programming to offer you, full of variety...

A CAPITOL FOURTH (image) One of PBS’ most-watched annual programs, A CAPITOL FOURTH (Mon., July 4, 7:30 pm, with an encore at 9:00 pm), comes to us from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Scheduled to appear: Gavin DeGraw, Jackie Evancho, Sutton Foster and the Broadway cast of On Your Feet!, Christopher Jackson of Broadway’s Hamilton, Kenny Loggins, Cassadee Pope, Amber Riley, Smokey Robinson, the National Symphony Orchestra – and, of course, a grand fireworks display.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAII: Election 2016 coverage (image) INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAII (Thurs., July 7, 8:00 pm) kicks off Election 2016 coverage with an overview discussion on key local races and the issues driving these races – including the messy Presidential contest, and local elections for Mayor and your district’s state representative. Leaders from Hawaii’s Democratic and Republican parties, along with political analysts, take a look at what’s at stake.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAII is a live public affairs show that is also streamed live on PBSHawaii.org. Your questions and comments are welcome via phone, email, or Twitter during the broadcast. You may email us ahead of time to insights@pbshawaii.org, or include the #pbsinsights hashtag when posting on Twitter.

FAMILY INGREDIENTS: Tahiti- Poisson Cru (image) A locally produced series that has “gone national” on PBS stations across the country, FAMILY INGREDIENTS (Wed., July 6, 7:30 pm), continues its adventures in genealogy, culture and cuisine. Host Ed Kenney joins a Hokulea crew member, Maui Tauotaha, as he reunites with his grandparents in Tahiti – and learns about the secrets behind his favorite family dish, Poisson Cru (pictured).

HIKI NŌ Episode #720: Host Crystal Cebedo (image) A Waianae High School valedictorian hosts this compilation episode of HIKI NŌ (Thurs., July 7, 7:30 pm). Crystal Cebedo, who started producing video stories as a Waianae Intermediate student, will be attending Menlo College in Atherton, California on a full scholarship. Besides introducing seven outstanding stories from the spring 2016 semester, Crystal takes us on her HIKI NŌ journey – from her first story in middle school, about coping with her mother’s terminal cancer, to learning leadership skills in high school.

Baldwin High School (Maui); Hongwanji Mission School (Oahu); Ka Waihona o ka Naauao Public Charter School (Oahu); Kua o ka La Milolii Hipuu Virtual Academy (Hawaii Island); Seabury Hall Middle School (Maui); and Waianae High School (Oahu).

SUPERNATURE – WILD FLYERS: Masters of the Sky (image) Many animals take to the skies for a split second, but to stay up there, the planet’s strongest flyers, Masters of the Sky, push the laws of physics to the limit. SUPERNATURE – WILD FLYERS (Wed., July 6, 8:00 pm) explores the extremes of true flight: power, acceleration, top speed, maneuverability and endurance.

9 MONTHS THAT MADE YOU: One of a Kind (image) 9 MONTHS THAT MADE YOU (Wed., July 6, 10:00 pm) shows us how each of us became One of a Kind, from how our faces are shaped to which hand we prefer to write with. Not even “identical” twins are truly identical.

Tough Trains: India’s Independence Railroads highlights this transit system, built during the 19th century by the British, and ultimately played a role in India’s independence.

THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW: Biscuits (image) The 11 remaining bakers on THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW (Fri., July 8, 9:00 pm) must tackle making Biscuits. Biscotti are the Signature challenge, while the Technical demands puff pastry arlettes. The Showstopper task is to create and build an edible biscuit box filled with 36 biscuits of different flavors. Robert and Deanna Levy, a Honolulu couple, are personally sponsoring broadcasts of this appealing series.

SUPPER CLUB: San Francisco, Part Two. Alvin Leung (image) “Demon Chef” Alvin Leung continues his visit to the Bay Area on SUPPER CLUB (Sat., July 9, 7:00 pm). FAKE OR FORTUNE? Renoir (image) On FAKE OR FORTUNE? (Sat., July 9, 8:00 pm), journalist Fiona Bruce and art detective Philip Mould try to prove the origins of a painting in a Welsh castle.
