Bluegrass Underground Special (image) I can’t resist calling out a music show that’s taped in one of the purest acoustical settings to be found – more than 300 feet below ground! The site is Tennessee’s Cumberland Caverns. In Bluegrass Underground Special (Fri., Feb. 19, 10:00 pm), performers include established and emerging artists within the broad spectrum of Bluegrass, Jam Band, Roots Rock, Neo-Folk and Americana genres. Featured artists include Andrew Bird, Vince Gill, Jason Isbell, Widespread Panic, Lucinda Williams, Lee Ann Womack and others. (Pictured: Members of the band Old Crow Medicine Show.)

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAII (Thurs., Feb 18, 8:00 pm) explores what Life as a Muslim in Hawaii is like for the nearly 5,000 people in our local Muslim community. They come from 42 countries. Some are American-born citizens. This discussion explores the advantages and challenges of life in Hawaii as Muslims observe their faith. Also on the program: University of Hawaii religion teacher Jay Sakashita, who’s known for his insightful Midweek columns.

INSIGHTS is a live telecast and also is streamed live at pbshawaii.org. We welcome your phone calls, email and tweets.

LONG STORY SHORT WITH LESLIE WILCOX: Guest Sarah Richards (image) Downtown Honolulu’s Hawaii Theatre wasn’t always a beauty of a performing arts center. When Sarah Richards took up its cause, it was a sorry sight, dilapidated and fading. Richards became a relentless fundraiser, spearheading a $32 million campaign and restoring it to its former glory. Richards served as President of the Hawaii Theatre Center for nearly 25 years before retiring in June 2014. On LONG STORY SHORT (Tues., Feb. 16, 7:30 pm), the Indiana native recalls how she planned a career outside the arts, but the arts kept calling to her. Richards was recently awarded the Preis Honor, a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the Hawaii Arts Alliance.

HIKI NŌ episode 713: Focus on Generation Z - Hayley and Harley (image) HIKI NŌ (Thurs., Feb. 18, 7:30 pm) highlights some of the best stories from recent months, with a Focus on Generation Z – those born after 1995. National surveys show that Gen Z-ers tend to be tech-savvy entrepreneurs who are aware of the world’s problems and are looking for practical ways to solve them. A featured story illustrates this ingenuity: Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School (Kauai) shows how student Haley Gokan built a wheelchair for her ailing dog, Harley.

Fellow Gen Z-er Shisa Kahaunaele, a HIKI NŌ alumna, hosts this look back at stories from: Kapaa High School (Kauai), Maui High School, Mid-Pacific (Oahu), Sacred Hearts Academy (Oahu) and Waianae Intermediate School (Oahu).

MASTERPIECE CLASSIC Downton Abbey: Season 6, Part 7 of 9 (image) Downton Abbey fans are bracing themselves, with only three more episodes until the end of the popular series on MASTERPIECE CLASSIC (Sun., Feb. 14, 8:00 pm). Part 7 of 9 has Mrs. Hughes tricking Carson (both pictured). Meanwhile, Mary experiences flashbacks, Mrs. Patmore opens for business, and things get serious for Edith.

Afterward on the Civil War drama MERCY STREET (Sun., Feb. 14, 9:00 pm), an unexpected visit of a hospital inspector throws the staff into disarray on The Dead Room.

FINDING YOUR ROOTS: Family Reunion - Sean Puffy Combs (image) It’s a pair of Family Reunions of sorts on FINDING YOUR ROOTS (Tues., Feb. 16, 8:00 pm). Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. helps uncover family mysteries about two legends of hip hop, Sean Combs (pictured, left, with Dr. Gates) and LL Cool J. What these two men learn shakes their very foundations.

INDEPENDENT LENS: The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution (image) INDEPENDENT LENS (Tues., Feb. 16, 9:00 pm) presents the first feature- length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party. The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution details the movement’s significance to American culture, its cultural and political awakening for black people and the painful lessons learned when a movement derails. Filmmaker Stanley Nelson weaves rare archival footage with the voices of the people who were there: police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters and detractors, and Black Panthers who remained loyal to the party and those who left it.

NATURE: Raising the Dinosaur Giant (image) Scientists may have discovered the biggest animal to have ever walked the planet. On NATURE (Wed., Feb. 17, 8:00 pm), the unearthing of the largest dinosaur bone so far spurs the discovery of another 200 bones and a journey to re-create what Raising the Dinosaur Giant would have been like. Sir David Attenborough, pictured, hosts.

Then on NOVA (Wed., Feb. 17, 9:00 pm), it’s an Iceman Reborn. Murdered more than 5,000 years ago, Otzi the Iceman is the oldest human mummy on Earth. Newly discovered evidence sheds light not only on this mysterious ancient man, but on the dawn of civilization in Europe.

AMERICAN MASTERS: Carole King (image) AMERICAN MASTERS (Fri., Feb. 19, 9:00 pm) delves into the life and career of a woman who wrote many a hit song – Carole King. She joins collaborators and family in new interviews, with rare home movies, performances and photos rounding out the story. This year marks the 45th anniversary of King’s landmark album, Tapestry, which spawned the hits “It’s Too Late,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “You’ve Got a Friend” and “So Far Away.”

Alice’s Restaurant 50th Anniversary Concert (Sat., Feb. 20, 10:00 pm) celebrates Arlo Guthrie’s 18-minute musical monologue, which spawned a platinum- selling record and a full-length motion picture. Arlo, the son of legendary musician Woody Guthrie, performs this song and others in concert.
